Bonze » Self
Fun and totally unique, ‘Self’ is in a lane totally it’s own.
INDIE TOP 39
‘Self’ is the latest release by the innovative UK-based artist Bonze. Filled with high-energy synths and easy-going vocals, the mood is impossible to describe. The instrumental was busy to the point of being chaotic at points, while vocals seemed to dance over top easily. Between the bass that drops the floor from beneath you to the splashy drum kit, the groove was infectious and impossible to ignore. Not only did it showcase the lead vocal melody, but was interesting and exciting on its own. I loved how each voice was interesting in its own regard as well as fitting the mood of the song.

Half Shadow » Moonless (Unmoored)
‘Moonless (Unmoored)’ was hauntingly beautiful
INDIE TOP 39
Gentle and poetic strings guide the relaxed energy of Half Shadow’s newest song, ‘Moonless (Unmoored)’. Powerful storytelling guides the versatile energy while the instrumental pushes and pulls at the various moods. Different voices would meld beautifully one moment, and devolve into chaos the next. No matter what was happening in the instrumental, the vocals had no trouble rising above the texture to be heard. Cool mixing gave everything a unique color that suited the song phenomenally. Half Shadow did an awesome job showing off their prowess and range on this cool song. Easily moving between different feelings, yet never really losing the core of the group’s sound.

HOLMES » If It Was Up To Me
It’s impossible to listen to ‘If It Was Up To Me’ without a smile on your face
INDIE TOP 39
United Kingdom-based singer/songwriter Holmes sounds phenomenal on ‘If It Was Up To Me’, his debut single. Easily pairing high-energy and relaxing vibes, his cool vocals led the song through its various moods. Whenever the excited chorus came around everything locked together and the song’s energy seemed to soar. Even the lower energy sections manage to retain that uplifting energy. Through every different fun melody or introspective verse, the rhythm section supported Homes perfectly. Every new mood started in the instrumental and flourished through the vocals. Not only was this an incredible song, but an impressive start to what’s bound to be a fruitful career.

Luke Fraser » Over Love
Grandiose and groovy, ‘Over Love’ is a delight
INDIE TOP 39
Chilling storytelling meets classic rock on Luke Fraser’s new song, ‘ Over Love’. Cool guitars waste no time setting the stage for the song’s huge atmosphere. Easily transitioning from low to high energy, the song captures drastically different moods with ease. The vocals take the role of ringmaster and push at the song’s texture and tone. Drifting between nostalgia and modern energies, there’s never a dull moment. I loved how different the verses felt from one another, and even the chorus. Even on the first listen there was a sense of familiarity that would come and go. An awesomely innovative, and catchy song!

Sahara Beck » Stillness
‘Stillness’ left me with goosebumps
INDIE TOP 39
Sahara Beck is an artist who is impossible to pin down. On ‘Stillness’ quiet introspective lyrics are paired with atmospheric synthesizers, almost like a dream. As the song’s texture thickens and changes the different voices complement and contrast one another. Sometimes distorted electric guitars, while at other times opting for gentle piano lines. Led by eerie vocal melodies, the way the harmonies would expand and evolve was chilling. No matter how many different voices were playing, there was this underlying sense of calmness. Nothing ever felt chaotic or even aggressive. Instead, one mood would drift to the next beautifully and restfully.

Silver Lake » Under The Silver Lake
‘Under The Silver Lake’ is easy-going and cool
INDIE TOP 39
What I loved most about ‘Under The Silver Lake’, the debut song by the Netherlands-based collective Silver Lake, was the versatility. Sounding as comfortable singing alongside one another supported by psychedelic guitars as they did through the introspective verses. It wasn’t only the vocals either, the band was perfectly content allowing the instruments to lead the energy of the song. It helped capture the groove and bring out the best parts of every different voice’s performance without losing the core tone of the song. It was cool, mysterious, entertaining, and fun. Honestly, I could come up with adjectives to describe it for hours, but what matters most is how memorable everything was. I found myself thinking back to ‘Under The Silver Lake’ days later, a true testament to a good release.
