‘Heartbreak Motel’ is the hauntingly emotional and heartbreaking new tune from Los Angeles-based alternative pop star Bella Kelly. Serving as the follow-up to her incredibly successful debut single, ‘Throat’, ‘Heartbreak Motel’ shows another side of the talented musician, as she takes a slower, gentler, and more minimalistic approach. The instrumentals serve as the perfect vehicle for Kelly’s enchanting, almost whispery vocals, as she takes the listener on a heart-rending journey. “Heartbreak motel, check-in for two, I thought that I really loved you,” sings Kelly. “Rain pours down, cleanses my soul, this man leaves me broken but needing more.”
Working alongside producer and engineer David Gnozzi, the pair have created a grand, cinematic piece of music that we at Indie Top 39 believe will stand the test of time. The music video for ‘Heartbreak Motel’ is also rather special, and you can check it out for yourself below!

What does the song mean to you?
‘Heartbreak Motel’ is very close mine and my producers hearts. I write stories, sometimes based on my own experiences, but more often are just fictional or based on other people’s experiences. Heartbreaks, and not being able to leave someone even if it hurts, is a very relatable feeling that most people are or have experienced. It’s something that goes beyond age, social status, gender or any other divisive “group” of people, and I really tried to put down in words this feeling and make something many people could relate to.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
All the people who have their heart broken, who suffered from losing their love or being betrayed. With those who despite being hurt and broken still love and they didn’t lose the precious gift we all have to be able to love. To those people goes my message which might not seem like it, but it is also a message of hope. Love is not always easy or painless but if it’s real love, it’s worth it, and it will mend the wounds.
What does success mean to you?
Making something you’re proud of. Success is not money or fame, success is making something that moves people, something that touches their heart and soul. It can be happiness or sadness or grief or joy, music is supposed to grab you and take you on a ride of emotions. Hopefully, you are able to create something that last forever because emotions are universal and timeless, they unite us all and they don’t look at gender or age or skin color or anything else.
When did you realise that music is what you wanted to do?
Probably since I was able to walk, or make a sound. I have home videos of me singing in front of the TV and my family from when I was barely able to walk.
I started my career in the entertainment by acting. I’ve been in several movies and TV series as a pre-teenager but I did not really like that world, or better, I did, but I didn’t have the same passion that I have for music, which instead gives me the possibility of creating something of mine and expressing myself and fighting my demons by using my fears, my insecurities and turning them into words and lyrics. In doing so, I somewhat feel like I exorcise them and also try to help people at the same time.
