Tom Tikka is certainly no newcomer to the scene. As a former member of Finnish rock band Carmen Gray, it’s fair to say that he’s been around the block a few times. Now focusing on his solo career, the indie-rocker has just released a killer new tune called ‘By 2022’. It’s an upbeat and infectious track that could be mistaken for a break-up song of sorts, but it’s actually a song to be “sung to the year 2022,” says Tikka.
Realising that the whole concept of a new year has so much meaning and significance to people, Tikka decided to write his own personal letter to the new year – and the outcome is simply incredible! The prolific musician is also one half of the Finnish pop duo The Impersonators, so there’s more than enough of this ridiculously talented artists music to sink your teeth into!
‘By 2022’ is an instant hit! Full of energy and catchy-as-hell. We thank you Tom Tikka!

What does the song mean to you?
‘By 2022’ was born out of an extremely naïve thought that perhaps by the time the year changes, everything will fall into place miraculously. I’m sure I’m not the first person to play such mind games. Of course, in real life, miracles don’t come around very often. My grandma used to say, “If you want a miracle, work hard at producing one.” Obviously, she was right. Yet, every once in a while, it’s wonderful to take a break from reality and pretend that you can have a conversation with the future, a bargaining session almost, where you speak your mind bluntly and express your fears, hopes and dreams, and possibly change things for the better.
Thomas Jefferson once said, “I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.” I couldn’t agree with him more.
Which Netflix series or movie would you like your music to be featured in?
I think it’d be cool if my music appeared on the Netflix show Haunted. Not necessarily ‘By 2022’ but some of the darker stuff, like ‘Bullet In The Head’ or ‘Garden Of Judas’.
What does success mean to you?
Being given an opportunity to touch people’s hearts and minds with music. As long as I have an audience (big or small) that digs what I’m doing, I’m on cloud nine.
What would your life be like without music?
Without music, my life (as well as life itself) would be a mistake.
