Moonfall is the New York-based musical project of brother and sister duo Matthew Howl and Mei Moor. On their brand new single ‘Ripple’, the pair opt for simplicity, delicateness, and vulnerability. It’s a bit of a departure from their previous work and showcases the duos musical range as well as their willingness to experiment and explore new sounds. Essentially just Matthew, Mei, and an acoustic guitar, ‘Ripple’ is unbelievably captivating and inviting. As for influences and inspirations, the pair take a rather beautiful and commendable approach. “The biggest influence for our music is our image of what we want to be in the future,” they say. “And it comes from our fight to reach it.”
We at Indie Top 39 have fallen pretty hard for this brother and sister duo, and can’t wait to hear what they get up to next!
‘Ripple’ is a beautifully delicate and honest little tune from a seriously talented young duo.

What does the song mean to you?
It’s hard to like your own work. It’s not new, mostly anyone who’s ever created anything can likely relate to that in some way. Nothing ever feels good enough, and maybe that’s how it should be. But once in a while, you get close. I feel that this is the closest we’ve gotten so far. We can’t say this song is better than our other music, but it’s special to us in its own way.
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
This song was written for someone who will never hear it. We hope to get as many people as we can to listen in their place.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
This song is a little different from what we usually do. We wrote it very quickly one late night, on an acoustic guitar in one of our bedrooms. It has pretty much stayed the same since then. With most songs – we feel that there’s so much that can be brought out of them in many different musical ways, but this one felt whole as simple as it was.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“You told me to hold on
To what makes me stronger
Find compassion in the cruelty
And to fight for all that I believe in
Not against others’ beliefs”
