Counter the Eulogy are an Austrian-based rock group that just released their brand new single ‘Picturesque’. A melodic, intricate, and straight-up classic rock ‘n’ roll tune, ‘Picturesque’ is the third single to be presented from the band’s upcoming EP entitled With Eyes Wide Open. A song that calls for the protection of our beautiful surroundings, the band admit that ‘Picturesque’ is “lyrically, one of these rare Counter the Eulogy songs that is overflowing with positivity”. Approaching the climate crisis from a different perspective, Markus Orthaber, lead vocalist and lyricist, weaves a beautiful tale for his daughter. “We should be content in what we have, embrace nature’s beauty,” he sings. “Learn to appreciate every detail, I guess that’s our primary duty.”
Inspired by the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimmy Eat World, Three Doors Down, and Alter Bridge, Counter the Eulogy are certainly worth keeping an eye (and an ear) on!
‘Picturesque’ is a straight-up classic, melodic, rock ‘n’ roll track that hits all the right notes!

What does the song mean to you?
Markus: The idea to ‘Picturesque’ started when my youngest daughter was a little child, about 2 years old. I thought about her and how I wished her life might be. Then, inevitably, I thought about the climate crisis and inequality – which are kind of the main topics of our upcoming EP With Eyes Wide Open. However, I didn’t want the song to feel like a protest-song, although it is in a way. This led me to approaching the topic from a different perspective. By highlighting the great things around us every day. I hope that listeners connect to the song and it’s lyrics in a similar way that I do.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
The creative process for us at Counter the Eulogy often is that someone showcases an idea (a riff, a chord progression, etc.) at a rehearsal. The others would comment on it, try to connect with the idea and build upon it. This way everyone has a major part in the songwriting-process. The lyrics would often be written after the music by Markus with a certain main topic in mind.
What does success mean to you?
Success to us means being able to write the songs we love ourselves and still be able to connect with our fans through them. If we get positive reactions as is the case more and more frequently, that really drives our motivation to new heights.
Please finish the sentence – Music to us is…
Being able to express what we couldn’t express otherwise. Without it, we wouldn’t nearly be who we are today.
