What does the song mean to you?
‘Ragdoll’ is dark and poetic alternative/folk-pop song about self reflection. It’s a song that explores the relationship with one’s self. It is a story about digging deeper and figuring out what works and what does not. It is a song about learning to be better and understanding our true self.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
I hope the song resonates with people of all ages, that have gone through a rough patch in life and came out better and stronger than before. None of us are perfect and that’s the beauty of being human. Life is all about learning and growing. And for those who feel like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel, there is! Just keep going and keep pushing forward. There is always time for self reflection and evaluation. You are never really stuck. I want this song to be a reminder of that.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
I wrote ‘Ragdoll’ back in 2012. When I normally write songs I just try and let them flow out of me naturally instead of forcing them. With ‘Ragdoll’ I had it basically finished back in 2012 but always felt like there was something missing, and it wasn’t until 2018 that I wrote the bridge section it so badly needed. I started putting in all the different instruments and sent it off to sound engineer and producer Thomas Donoghue. Once I got to record the acoustic instruments with him, we worked closely together on all the electronic instruments. We wanted a dark sound and played around with altering my vocals, to give it a ghostly or creepy vibe.
