‘You Ma Dude’ is the brand new single (and second ever) from Australian-based soul/pop musician JaZZella. Taking inspiration from her Sunshine Coast surroundings, ‘You Ma Dude’ is a playful, surfy, laid-back little number that is unbelievably fresh and original. Effortlessly blending elements of funk, reggae, and jazz with R&B and pop, there’s a uniqueness to JaZZella’s sound that is incredibly exciting. Oh, she also raps on the tune! Honestly, her musical talents are simply endless.
‘You Ma Dude’ was co-produced by the songstress, working alongside legendary ARIA award-winning musician and producer Paulie Bromley at Yama-Nui Studios in her hometown. It’s quite unbelievable that this is only JaZZella’s second-ever release. Her confidence and skill are clear for all to see, and we at Indie Top 39 have absolutely no doubt that you’ll be hearing a lot more from this brilliant artist in the future.
‘You Ma Dude’ is one of the freshest and most unique tracks I’ve heard in ages. Big up JaZZella!

What does the song mean to you?
‘You Ma Dude’ is flirty, fun and fresh! My band and I had the most incredible day of jamming together as we brought this track to life. The musicality within this song was written with the intent to push through the boundaries of confining to one genre and instead to capture all the styles of music that influence me as an artist.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
I wrote ‘You Ma Dude’ in my bedroom one night when I was having a lonely little late night jam. I created a rough demo of the song on my laptop and took it to my band rehearsal the next day to show my friends.
All of our plans went out the window because as soon as the band heard it – they loved it! We sat in my drummer’s hot little back shed in the middle of summer and played the song over and over for about six hours!
What does success mean to you?
I believe that the best form of success you can achieve is balance within your life. Balance between your work, creative endeavors, family time, social gatherings, alone time, and the activities that you partake in on a daily basis to fuel a healthy body, mind and lifestyle. I love dreaming big and am always striving for the next success – however the best part of the whole experience is just learning to enjoy the journey and every little hiccup or achievement that occurs along the way!
What would your life be like without music?
I’ve had a taste of life without music… and it SUCKED! After many years of touring live – I faced a three year battle with vocal nodules. It wasn’t until I had no voice left at all that I realised how badly I was injured. I was advised to completely give up singing and complete six months of vocal rest. This long break without music was a difficult journey and caused a bit of an identity crisis within myself, as I didn’t know who I was without my voice.
This experience gave me a whole new perspective on who I am and made me realise that although I am not defined by music, connecting with people through self-expression and creating music is truly everything to me. I am so grateful to have recovered without any invasive surgeries and during 2021 have bounced back onto the music scene hungrier and even more determined than ever .
