Emrik M-Rock Larsson, along with his former band The Stonefunkers, was instrumental in starting the funk movement in Sweden in the mid-’80s. On his brand new release, ‘Tenderness,’ the musician pays homage to the classic soul and funk sounds of yesteryear. Recorded entirely live in the studio, M-Rock enlisted the help of the Wefunky band as well as the talented songstress Johanna Hjort to create what’s already, as far as I’m concerned, a timeless tune. Effortlessly smooth and cool, ‘Tenderness’ features the funkiest of basslines, an incredible horn section, and a catchy, jangly guitar that just fits in perfectly. Inspired by the greats – Bill Withers, Sly Stone, Prince, Whitney Houston – M-Rock has cleverly crafted his own unique sound over his many years in the game. And with another cracking song just recently released, we look forward to hearing his music for many years to come.
Effortlessly cool, full of soul, and as funky as they come, ‘Tenderness’ is an instant hit!

What does the song mean to you?
The song means love and tenderness in this chaotic world, to try to stick together and spread love and tenderness, and funky vibes..
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
I actually came up with the title first when I started to collaborate with a songwriter from Malmö in Sweden. I took the basic track to my band, we changed some parts, and had the lyrics for the verse already made. As normally happens, one night I started singing the melody on my phone, and then laid down the chorus. After that Johanna put down her part and the horn-players did their thing.
When did you realise that music is what you wanted to do?
I’ve always been singing and making music – since I was about ten years old. But I never realised I would make this my full time job. I’m addicted to music and can’t stop making music, even though nowadays the satisfaction comes more from the creative process, and releasing the songs, and playing live, rather than late night after parties, and the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle with my former band.
What does success mean to you?
Success means being with people you enjoy. Being with and loving, and having a good time. Life is short and enjoy life to the fullest. Make music, eat good food, work out, take a swim, sleep, read, listen to music, dance, laugh, and have fun with the ones you love.. success in life is being true to yourself.
