‘Lonely in the Summertime’ is the brand new release from New Orleans-based alternative musician Sean Hobbes. As the second installment of Hobbes’ upcoming visual-EP, ‘Lonely in the Summertime’ is a bluesy, soulful, and deeply reflective tune. Dealing with the theme of loneliness and the subsequent frustration that comes with it, even when things appear to be going well, it’s clear that the artist has felt the negative effects of the world going into lockdown.
“I could try to make a plan to set me at ease,” sings Hobbes. “But my loneliness has got me like a disease.” Enlisting the help of his band The Hi Res, ‘Lonely in the Summertime’ is an unbelievably genre-bending track. Intense brass and smooth bass lines give the track an almost big-band feel, as Hobbes pushes the boundaries of what pop music is meant to sound like. We simply cannot wait to hear the full EP!

What does the song mean to you?
This song is about the frustrations of feeling alone when things are going well. When we worked on the video, we wanted to portray some of the irony that loneliness can actually unite people because it is a universal experience.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
I think this song can resonate with a lot of people, especially given the past year and a half of the pandemic. Everyone craves social interaction to some degree. I think that it’s important to be aware of your own feelings and to understand that other people are going through something similar.
What does success mean to you?
Success is relative to me. Every time I record and release a song, I learn something from the experience and I try to get better. As long as I keep pushing myself and raising my own expectations, I’ll consider myself successful.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
Well, this is the second song of a visual-EP that we’re rolling out and I’m so excited to share the full project. I really want to establish myself as a storyteller. My band and I are constantly working on new music too so we’re hoping to keep people’s attention for a while.
