September is already here. In America, Labor day is coming up – signaling the end of summer. It always seems to spring up quicker than expected. Luckily it means we’re just that much closer to my birthday! Still a ways away from January so maybe not that close yet unfortunately..
Luckily, the music this week was killer. Here are 7 tracks we adored!
Connor Adams » Set Me Free
‘Set Me Free’ is guaranteed to put even the grumpiest of gus’ in a good mood.
INDIE TOP 39
Electric guitar complimented Connor Adams’ expressive voice. Although the rock instrumental was thick, the vocals felt light and fun. Drawing influences from genres all across the board, from country to pop, kept everything feeling fresh. One of my favorite parts was how easy it was to listen to. Nothing was overly complicated, yet the melodies were still catchy. In fact, the whole song felt hopeful. The ooh’s matched the atmosphere and put a smile on my face. Between the easy-going delivery and the happy lyrics, the aesthetic was delightful and nice to listen to.

Cyrano » Collateral
Cool production and atmospheric lyrics define Cyrano’s unique sound.
INDIE TOP 39
‘Collateral’ manages to be interesting and enjoyable. Released alongside another single called ‘Tundra’ and a chopped version of the song, this project is intricate and unique. The cool guitar lines are eerie, yet lead into familiar melodies. Vocals float alongside these grooves, complimenting the texture, but never stealing attention away. Additionally, they felt like they were mixed next to the rhythm section instead of in front of it all. Because of this, they seemed to meld into the texture seamlessly. Although ‘Collateral’ felt atmospheric to begin, when it settled into the groove it felt thick and full. It was a cool transition, and a great way to round out the song.

Dominic Romano » Listen
‘Listen’ was as enjoyable to listen to as it was impressive.
INDIE TOP 39
US-based artist Dominic Romano teamed up with Michael Dayvid to deliver this anthem of empathy. Sometimes you just want/need to be heard and understood. Powerful vocals and lyrics sounded great over the dance instrumental. The verses are quick and fun. Whenever it reaches the chorus the energy is palpable and exciting. Although summer may be almost over, it felt like summertime with the bouncy Kygo-esque instrumental. One of my favorite things was the layered vocals. The harmonies were rich, while counter melodies would fade from one headphone to the other. It was innovative and allowed for the lead melody to soar over top.

Jacqueline Loor » I Can Fly
Jacqueline Loor sounded elegant and empowering on ‘I Can Fly’
INDIE TOP 39
Miami native Jacqueline Loor continues to impress on her newest release ‘I Can Fly’. Uptempo snaps kept the song moving alongside the rhythmic guitar riffs. Sometimes leaning into the almost Taylor Swift aesthetic, while at others feeling closer to something by Olivia Rodrigo. Something I loved was how easily the verses transitioned into the chorus. It was recognizable, yet caught me off guard at points. Through it all, the powerful lyrics were elegant and enjoyable. The whole song had a huge presence and beauty to it. Easily delivering the intimate lyrics, Jacqueline Loor sounded lovely throughout.

Rya » Seconds
Involved production suits Rya’s calm delivery phenomenally on ‘Seconds’
INDIE TOP 39
London-based artist Rya is effervescent on their new single ‘Seconds’. Right off the bat, the interesting vocal schemes command attention. Every verse felt effortless and light. Not only that, but lyrics were relatable without dumbing down their content or losing the vibe. When delivered alongside the crazy production, the result is magic. I found the dance breaks interesting and complimentative to the fun aesthetic. By the time the break happens the production thickens and expands the mood. The unique sounds fit perfectly into the texture and match the energy. Rya sounded cool and unlike anything else out right now.

Everybody has your person; someone who just gets you. ‘You Know Me So Well’ isn’t only an ode to those feelings, it does so in a way that’s constantly fresh and nice to listen to.
