New Jersey based alternative pop star, Gina Royale, has released yet another cracking single, continuing her seriously productive and fruitful year. ‘Down From Your High’ is Royale’s fourth release of 2021 and is a classic breakup song in every sense of the word. Following the growth and development of a woman regaining her vigour after a heavy breakup, the gifted musician compares the events to a drug-induced comedown and, in the process, proves herself a wonderful lyricist and storyteller. “You’re so vain and I’m naive, I’d knit the sweater with the sleeve, you’d hide your tricks up and enjoy it.” The accomplished songstress also puts on an expert vocal performance, showing stunning range and masterful control. With more tracks lined up for release shortly, expect to hear a lot more from Gina Royale in the not too distant future.
‘Down From Your High’ is a powerful and impassioned statement from an unbelievably talented artist.
INDIE TOP 39
What does the song mean to you?
The song is about the really vulnerable yet empowering place you find yourself when you leave a toxic situation. It’s a really rare, beautiful, and challenging place to be.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
My favorite lyrics in the song are, “You’re so vain and I’m naive, I’d knit the sweater with the sleeve, you’d hide your tricks up and enjoy it”.
What would your life be like without music?
Without music, my life would be pretty boring. Considering I went to college for music, work as a music instructor, and am a full time singer/songwriter, I would have to re-evaluate a large portion of my life without music.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success is being able to reach others through my art. If I can impact others through my words and music, I feel a beautiful sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. One million Spotify streams would also be cool too.
