Designed to reach out to listeners who may be struggling with self-worth, ‘The Impostor’ feels perfect for what we hope to be more joyous times ahead.

The first single release of 2021 from New York-based singer-songwriter Emmrose, ‘The Imposter’ was, in equal measure, narratively inspired by the idea of imposter syndrome, as well as the video game Among Us. But more so than that, ‘The Imposter’ dives deep into Emmrose’s own feelings towards having to pretend to fit in, and the anxieties that surround being either too confident, or not confident enough. With a gorgeously warm melody lacing this introspective narrative together, we feel that this track definitely stands as a beautiful ballad that will reach out to listeners that may be struggling with self-worth. Along with this, it feels like an incredible musical accompaniment to what we hope to be more joyous times ahead.
Alvinos Zavlis » Can’t (SadBoi Anthem)
We were bewitched by the steady progression and the clockwork-like beat of ‘Can’t (SadBoi Anthem).

Through his discography, experimental artist Alvinos Zavlis has lived by the ambition to explore any genre of music that a listener could think of. His versatility absolutely shined through last year, and it seems that he is planning on repeating this success in 2021. With his second single release of the year, titled ‘Can’t (SadBoi Anthem)’, Zavlis lyrically reflects upon the idea of wanting to break free from somebody who endangers your wellbeing, while simultaneously being unable to let go. This is added to an instrumental which fuses elements of trap and industrial, and had us bewitched by the steady progression of the clockwork-like beat. And despite its steadiness, it stands as another dynamic musical piece from this clearly talented artist.
Bonze » Jenny (Can You Hear Me?)
‘Jenny (Can You Hear Me?)’ perfectly fuses Bonze’s electro-pop aesthetic with a more stripped-back and intimate feel.

After first releasing music in 2020, London-based solo artist Bonze gave listeners a taste of his highly luminous electro-pop sound, through his first three singles. After laying the foundations for his discography, Bonze now sets his sights towards his debut album, allegedly arriving in 2022. This week saw Bonze release his first teaser for said album, in the form of his new single ‘Jenny (Can You Hear Me?)’. This track sets itself apart from his previous tracks, by beginning with a much more stripped-back and intimate sound, before gorgeously progressing into more electronic territory. ‘Jenny (Can You Hear Me?)’ truly feels like the best of both worlds musically, and has our hopes sky-high regarding his upcoming project.
Jacko Hooper » This Was the Earth
‘This Was the Earth’ is brimming with bittersweet warmth, and even by Jacko Hooper standards, feels incredibly intimate.

After a 2020 that was full of phenomenal single releases from Brighton-based folk singer-songwriter Jacko Hopper, we are absolutely thrilled to see him releasing music once again in 2021. This week saw Hooper bring us his first single release of the year, given the title of ‘This Was the Earth’. As it tells an introspective story of Hooper’s views on a scary and changing world, the melody behind ‘This Was the Earth’ is brimming with bittersweet warmth, and even by Jacko Hooper standards, feels incredibly intimate. This brand new track also carries a noticeably more cinematic undertone, which feels like a perfect fit for the kind of atmosphere that ‘This Was the Earth’ so captivatingly conveys.
Palo G » Memorias
This track truly feels like a pivotal step towards Palo G becoming a true idol, and a giver of strength to non-binary music lovers.

Born in the Spanish city of Marbella, but currently based in Berlin, non-binary pop artist Palo G uses her music to stand as a role model for non-binary music lovers, and those that never found their hero. While much of her previous material felt closely tied to a trap aesthetic musically, her brand new single, and first to be released in 2021, named ‘Memorias’ ventures into a more latin pop field, and allows Palo G to express more of her Spanish heritage, through what feels like her truest and most realised single to date, and openly expresses her traumas surrounding gender identity and sexual assault. This track truly feels like a pivotal step towards Palo G becoming a true idol, as well as a giver of strength and solidarity for her community.
Phoenix Mundy » Baby Blue
We found ourselves completely soaking up the gorgeous melody of Phoenix Mundy’s highly atmospheric debut single.

‘Baby Blue’ is the debut single release from gothic jazz-pop artist Phoenix Mundy, who had previously donned the moniker of Patchwork Guilt. While her previous venture saw this artist express a stripped-back and intimate musical style, the newfound avenue of Phoenix Mundy conveys a far more atmospheric feel; one that, in the case of this debut single, we soaked up entirely. The cold sounding melody behind this track feels absolutely gorgeous, and clarifies the idea of Mundy’s goth/pop/jazz fusion. And while there are many elements that make ‘Baby Blue’ such a delightful track to behold, we would have to say that this track’s incredible depth is the most glaring of its qualities, and the soundscape that such a depth creates felt truly amazing to us.
Superbloom » Paper & Stone
‘Paper & Stone’ sees the most comfortable companionship between the grunge and blues rock styles that influence Superbloom.

London-based alternative rock duo Superbloom begin their musical 2021 by bringing us their third single ‘Paper & Stone’. While the band’s musical style has shown a great deal of influence from both grunge and blues rock, we feel that ‘Paper & Stone’ sees the most comfortable companionship between the two styles. We feel that the hazy tune that the track begins with does perfectly to set the tone, for what we knew would be an epic experience. Lyrically, ‘Paper & Stone’ explores the idea of how society perceives the idea of perfection, as a result of being exposed to mainstream media; but this subject matter is addressed in an awesomely artful way, and really speaks volumes regarding how innovative this dynamic duo are.
Warahenege » For the Moment
The beauty truly lies within just how fluidly each element of ‘For the Moment’ welds together, reflecting Warahenege’s artistry once more.

‘For the Moment’ is the sophomore single release from the bedroom indie-rock artist Warahenege, and follows the amazingly atmospheric debut ‘Cosmic Mess’. This brand new track sees Warahenege implement the same cosmic vibe into a single that has a more soothing pace to it. This ultimately gives ‘For the Moment’ a truly indulgent and psychedelic presence. With all of that being said however, Warahenege also succeeds in injecting a good amount of progression into this track, and listeners are still blessed with a euphoric soundscape towards the climax of this track. Pairing with the thought-provoking lyrics of ‘If I Had a Dime’, is a wonderfully warm and nostalgic melody that ties everything together to make ‘If I Had a Dime’ an equally enjoyable and attention-grabbing tune.
