We have now come to the final Sunday of July. And what better way to conclude the month than with the releases we have been blessed with this week.
We were lucky enough to listen to many different tunes, whose styles range from epic and theatrical, to heartwarming and colourful. So without further ado, let’s cover this versatility with our top 10 picks.
Track Of The Week »
JYLDA » Impulse
Starting off with our track of the week, we have the amazing second 2020 release from JYLDA, an artist that we have been supporting with every one of her songs, and somebody that we were lucky enough to discuss this track further with on our IGTV live stream. Following on from the awesome previous track ‘Jeopardy’, this new single is one step further for her innovative, genre-bending and enchanting sound. The brilliantly surreal nature of ‘Impulse’ made it more than deserving of being this week’s top pick.

Caleb Linscombe » Mean
With the first release of 2020 from bedroom pop artist Caleb Linscombe, it definitely feels like a change of pace, in comparison to his 2019 singles. ‘Mean’ is a track that feels very spring-like, with its lovely, heartwarming melody and 8-bit sounds to give it that extra kick. It simply has such an innocent and sou-lifting vibe to it, that it stuck with us almost instantly.

Jonny Morgan » Lonely In Soho
Having begun to release music in 2020, Bath-based singer/songwriter Jonny Morgan had nurtured a unique blend of UK and Americana style folk, having spent his years growing up regularly visiting the United States. With his third and newest release, ‘Lonely In Soho’, Morgan really brings out the power of his unique sound in a highly cinematic and intimate fashion, that really helped us get easily immersed into the tune.

Kmodo & Clara Serra López » When You’re Ready
‘When You’re Ready’ is the second release from London based producer Kmodo that follows his debut EP, 2019’s Cold Fusion. Much like the previous single ‘When Will I Get There’ Kmodo once again enlists the vocal talent of Clara Serra López, which is a clear indication of just how gorgeous Komodo’s production and Clara’s vocals sound in unison. We really loved how the smooth, flowing rhythm defied our expectations, and really broke the mold for what a track such as this one could bring on an emotional level.
Much like with Kmodo’s previous single, the collaboration with Clara Serra López indicates just how well these two sound together.

Matias Malagardis, Ax T, Flower Bones & Tom Jordan » One Of Those Days
It took no time at all for ‘One Of Those Days’ to really stick out in our minds as a serene, warm, and blissful sounding track. And with all of the artists involved collaborating behind the wheel of this track, it resulted in a clear sense of layering and vastness in this gorgeous track.

Sandtimer » Three Cars
While Sandtimer have shown no struggle in bringing out the intimacy of their folk-like sound beforehand, we feel that their latest release, ‘Three Cars’ goes above and beyond to sound as authentically folk as humanly possible. As a result, we genuinely felt as if we were right in front of the band as this song played, given just how gravitational the track’s immersive pull was to us.

Sofia Dragt » Underwater
While we absolutely loved Sofia Dragt’s previous single ‘Old Boat’, we feel that this brand new single is possibly even more of a beautiful track than that. Dragt’s angelic vocals, paired with the soft, echoing melody, really creates a gorgeously epic and cinematic serenity. This track also progresses perfectly, with the vocals blossoming as this stunning track evolves. We had a chance to chat with Sofia on our IGTV on Friday.

Split The Dealer » Harmony
‘Harmony’ is the fourth release from the artist that is Split The Dealer. And in comparison to his three previous tracks, which showed a very versatile mixture of pop, folk, indie and rock, this single feels like an important step in his discography. In our minds, we feel that each of the genres that influence Split The Dealer’s style come together brilliantly in what is both an incredibly sleek-sounding, and highly energetic bop.

Ten Hands High » 6 Weeks
While Ten Hands High really seemed to refine their style down to something that was highly polished, and something you’d expect from a band with tonnes of financial backing behind them, with their earlier 2020 single ‘Red Wine’, this newest track translates this into a track that is instantly atmospheric, engaging, and utterly feel-good from beginning to end.
‘6 Weeks’ translates the Ten Hands High newfound refinery into an atmospheric, engaging, and utterly feel-good release.

Tropical Boyfriend Catalogue » Wasted on You
Despite the fact that Tropical Boyfriend Catalogue had no trouble developing a colourful catalogue of music beforehand, their latest release ‘Wasted on You’ really takes the cake for being one of the quirkiest and most whimsical tracks they have released to date, and quite frankly, it really got on our good side. We couldn’t help but fall in love with the prancing piano and extremely bubbly melody.
