It’s definitely safe to say that the month of July has started off strong when it comes to all of the amazing new music we’ve been blessed with.
This article will see us write about the 9 tracks that we felt have really stuck with us this week. So without further ado, let’s jump straight into it.
Madeleine Mayi » friendly fires
With her previous track ‘Love Me’ storming our chart, and coming out on top as our best song of the year so far, we were very excited to discover what she had up her sleeve for her newest track. Thankfully, ‘friendly fires’ follows suit as an equally amazing track. This new track does brilliantly retain that same echoing and haunting sound as ‘love me’ while adding an extra sense of dramatic epicness as well. Be sure to also check out our Insta Live session with Mayi on Instagram TV to learn more about our incredible track of the week.

The Dryas » Make You Mine
‘Make You Mine’ is the sophomore single from the Brighton-based, self-produced trio, following their debut single ‘Boy’. And while their first track was brilliant in its own right, ‘Make You Mine’ takes their style to a whole new level. Considering that this is only the second track they’ve released, we were thoroughly impressed by the incredible atmosphere that their deep and intimate sound creates.

Fur Echo » Idle Threats
Fur Echo is the musical project of London-based singer-songwriter, Marcus Pike, which debuted earlier this year with the track ‘Standing Alone’. Being the third release from Fur Echo so far, ‘Idle Threats’ is also by far the most upbeat and wondrous. Whilst the previous two singles had a much more slow-burning and stripped back feel, ‘Idle Threats’ feels like Fur Echo is really beginning to establish its musical individuality.

Hugh & Bonjay » Walk It Off
After being in our chart previously, experimental electronic collective Hugh releases their first single of 2020, in a collaboration with electro-soul duo Bonjay. The styles that each of these artists have developed over their musical careers come together brilliantly, in a track that carries a brilliant progression and an insane amount of depth.

The Novus » Man on the Bridge
The Birmingham four-piece that is The Novus does a remarkable job of capturing that post-punk aesthetic, in one of the most nostalgic sounds we’ve heard in quite a while. Along with this, ‘Man on the Bridge’ is incredibly energetic and engaging. This is definitely the type of track that was destined to be a blast live.

Petter Carlsen » Contradictions
After a small break in 2019, alt-rock/indie-pop artist Petter Carlsen has released three tracks in 2020 so far. The third and newest of these songs ‘Contradictions’ takes a more slow and atmospheric approach than Carlsen’s earlier 2020 singles, and soaked us with its sheer depth and ambience. The melody of this track carries a very strong sense of serenity as well, which helps it become a really indulgent listen.

Sam Seccombe » Waiting on Your Love
After releasing the Long Time Coming EP earlier this year, Sam Secombe keeps his productive spirit alive with the release of a brand new track titled ‘Waiting on Your Love’. We really love how clean the production of this track sounds. The awesome vocal harmonies, along with the wholesome instrumentation all culminate into a brilliantly uplifting sound.

Sami Simon » Morning Sun
A good friend to us over at Indie Top 39, Sami Simon had no trouble making his way into our chart last year. That being said, ‘Morning Sun’ is Sami’s first release of 2020, and it is simply brilliant to hear his signature folk-like sound once more. This track does its title a great deal of justice and absolutely oozes with a comforting warmth. We’d say that ‘Morning Sun’ is an absolutely perfect tune for any early morning playlist.

Sonny Elliot » Adore You
‘Adore You’ is the second 2020 release from UK based indie-folk duo Sony Elliot, and is described to be a “story of being there for a loved one struggling with emotional grief”. Knowing the context behind this track really elevates the soft, melancholy sound and adds a great deal of sentiment to this beautiful song.
