With the weeks now fleeting past all of us, we feel that there are now two reasons that New Music Sunday is so important; the first and foremost is, of course, is to keep the vibe alive with all of the awesome new material, but secondly is so that you guys remember that its already Sunday.
This week we have a couple of tracks that mark the return of some sorely missed artists, along with more singles from fresh creatives. So without further ado, lets dive in.
DREUW » Heavy
Our single of the week is none other than the sophomore single from the Leeds-based artist DREUW. ‘Heavy’ is the first taste of DREUW that listeners have had since his debut ‘When Will You’ back in 2018. But with the production help from the likes of Will Killen, ‘Heavy’ proves to be an incredibly deep track musically, which fits into the overall theme of mental health awareness like a glove. ClockClock » Water
With their second release of 2020, following their previous single ‘Memories’, electronic trio ClockClock takes a much more upbeat approach on ‘Water’. With a steady, pulsating beat, and the smooth vocals that lace this track, ‘Water’ is both an indulgent and engaging experience that is sure to stick around in the memories of its listeners.
LIE NING » home » W.O.C Remix
We are very pleased to say that LIE NING is back again with a brand new single release. After we enjoyed his previous two releases (that being for his singles ‘tonight’ and ‘wandering romance’), it seems that 2020 is really starting to spell a bright future for this artist, along with his listeners. This single had been released in a similar fashion to his previous two, in which there were two separate variants. However, this time around we were treated to a special remix alongside the standard version of ‘home’, courtesy of W.O.C. While the standard single is very atmospheric in its own right, we favoured the remix, as it really ups the sense of mood to the max.
Lily Knott » Drip
‘Drip’ is the second single to be released by Brighton-born Pop/R&B vocalist Lily Knott, following her 2019 debut that was ‘Haunt Me’. And while that debut single was very powerful with its stripped-back acoustic piano instrumental, ‘Drip’ takes an entirely different approach; one that we’re thrilled to hear. The production of this track is immensely glamorous and almost jazz-like in parts. We also love the Lily Allen kind of attitude in her vocals as well. We definitely hope that Lily Knott continues to pursue this musical route, as we can’t get enough of that gorgeous sound.
Marlon Percy » The Best & The Worst
After previously topping our chart, we were thrilled to discover a set of three new singles from the talented artists that is Marlon Percy, which was our first bit of music from him in 2020 thus far. Naturally, we adored all three of the new tracks that Percy had put out, as each of them shared a vast, spacey, and astronomical atmosphere. However, the one single that really grabbed our attention would have to be the third and final one listed, that being ‘The Best & The Worst’, because of how infectious and awesome the melody of that track is.
Mesita » Vanilla Hell
‘Vanilla Hell’ was definitely a track that had our interest this week, and part of that was definitely down to its joyful yet surreal soundscape. With a musical style that almost feels like something from The Boo Radleys, this track exceeds in creating that sense of indie nostalgia. The fleeting melody of this bright and sweet-sounding track make it one to add to any feel-good playlist.
Pentire » Belly Dancer
Another track released this week that created a sense of ‘indie nostalgia’ really well would be Pentire’s ‘Belly Dancer’, their third single to be released so far. but in the case of this track, it has a much more bittersweet and streetwise feel, but simultaneous one that undoubtedly feels very festival-ready, and carries that summer warmth.
Sarah Walk » what do I want?
After taking a small break from music, it is wonderful for us to discover a new single from Sarah Walk, which marks her return, and may also be hinting towards a brand new album (which would be the first from Sarah Walk since 2017’s ‘Little Black Book’). This brand-new and beautiful sounding song reflects upon Sarah’s soul-seeking journey in discovering what she truly wants to do for herself.
Vaeda Black & Saverio » cigs
Our final must-listen of this week goes to the awesome collaboration between alt-pop innovator Vaeda Black and trap artist Saverio. Despite being representatives of two quite different genres, these two creative minds expertly blend their two styles together, in a clean and mellow concoction that listeners can effortlessly immerse themselves in.
