2020 is over! Thank God for that. We can only hope that 2021 will be the year when things get better.
Looking back at the year that just ended we are thrilled how much insane talent we have discovered. Throughout the year we had 409 songs enter our weekly Indie Top 39 and today we would like to shine the light on the best 99 songs of the year. Until the very last minute, we had no idea which of the songs will claim the best spot.
I think it is important to explain how this list was made. Every single when the song would spend on the chart, each position will have points assigned. Number 1 = 39 points, number 2 = 38 points and so on. The maximum amount of weeks that the songs are allowed to spend on the chart is 10. So the maximum amount of points possible is 390.
Below you can see the list of the songs, the number of points they received + the number of weeks spent on the chart, and the peak position.
This year it was a very serious competition between American badass female duo JØAN, American singer-songwriter Madeleine Mayi and singer-songwriter and guitarist from Germany David Ost. They all have multiple songs on this final list and both Madeleine and David managed to score to TOP 10 singles in this final countdown of the year.
And the best song of 2020 is ‘Lights in the Shadows’ by JØAN.
